The 2012 Olympics May Be Over Soon, But London will Still Be Running

If, like me, you were glued to the Olympic Games; going to the live events, and generally loving the high that London was on, then you might be experiencing a ‘come-down’ right about now, writes Rena Dipti Annobil.

Yes, I did have a life before London 2012! But I’m really gonna miss watching the best athletes in the world do their thing. I’ll also miss seeing so many smiling helpful faces in London; tubes running as they should (without ‘planned engineering works’) and traffic-free roads (strange, but true).

There was also the sense of pride in what London had achieved with the success of Team GB. It was the first time in my life that I actually felt like wrapping myself up in the Union Jack flag.

Fear not. There’s no need to sink into a total depression just yet, as there’s still the Paralympics to come. But then what? Sport dominated by overpaid footballers? Christmas and the recession?

A holiday would be nice, but if that’s not on the cards there are a good few things to look forward to. The Guardian has put together a helpful list – my top picks are Africa Express, and the London Mela in Gunnersbury Park. Then, of course there’s Bashment Vibes  every Sunday.

And, if worse comes to the worst, at least Eastenders is finally back on BBC1!
