If you’ve not heard about the Azonto (Africa’s latest dance craze) not to worry; I’ll quickly bring you up to speed, writes DJ Anansi.
I first came across the dance when Ghanaian international footballer Asamoah Gyan started ‘shocking out’ as part of a goal celebration with the Black Stars (yes I said it, Gyan first made this dance popular).
Since then, various songs and renditions of the Azonto have been produced; some of the most popular being Sarkodie (U Go Kill Me), Fuse ft Tiffany and Donaeo (Azonto) and Gasmilla (Aboo Daa Twoi).
Now, everyone’s doing the dance – and not just Ghanaians or Nigerians.
I hear David Cameron has even given it a try! I went to Bashment Vibes recently and a guy was doing the Azonto to dancehall. Did it work? Hell yeah!
Check out the videos above, including The Vujanic (who also appears in D Banj’s Oliver Twist video) dancing Azonto in the middle of Central London! And have a look at these girls doing the Azonto in Norway.
Start practicing if you don’t want to get left behind!
