Last Wednesday was a sad day for the Indian music industry with the loss of Kuly Ral from popular Brit-Asian bhangra group RDB.
Kuly lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 35.
He’d been diagnosed with a brain tumor in April 2011 and was receiving treatment at a specialised clinic in Texas, USA at the time of his death.
Kuly along with brothers Manj and Surj made a lasting mark on the Indian music industry; and their unique blend of bhangra, hip hop and r&b brought them global success.
RDB performed at Overground Live in 2004 and went on to collaborate with Snoop Dogg and Ludacris, and produce tracks for Bollywood blockbusters such as Singh is Kinng and Namaste London.
Kuly’s death comes in the wake of recent plans to open a studio in India, the band’s biggest market.
RDB’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RDBmusic) is open for those who wish to pay their respects to Kuly and his family.
Rest in peace Kuly; a true pioneer of British Asian music.
