Prince Michael of Kent in Cash for Protection Scandal
02:21 - Wednesday 16 May 2012 - In Categories UK News, Money, World VideosPrince Michael of Kent, the queen’s first cousin, is embroiled in a corruption row after he admitted accepting £320,000 from controversial Russian billionaire Boris Berezovsky.
Berezovsky fled Russia in 2000 after he was accused of coordinating a £4.3 million fraud scam.
Britain’s repeated refusal to hand over the billionaire back to Russian authorities has caused a longstanding diplomatic row between the nations.
Between 2002 and 2008, Berezovsky made 56 payments to a company owned by the prince to fund ‘cultural and charitable activities’, a spokesman revealed earlier this week.
Although relevant taxes were paid and both men deny Berezovsky either sought or received political favours, the prince is yet to explain why he accepted the cash or what he’s done with it.
