A British rapper has landed a part in an upcoming movie based on the life of Notorious B.I.G.
London musician and songwriter Poni bagged a role in the new flick after attending auditions in New York.
Notorious, which is produced by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and stars Golden Globe-winning actress Angela Bassett, is due for release in January 2009.
Poni told Overground Online: ‘I was doing some recording in New York and I received a call from my agent who told me about the audition. I went for it and got a call back!
‘We were filming for two days in New York, and then went to California. It was a great experience and I think the film’s going to be brilliant,’ she adds.
Notorious depicts the life, music and rags to riches story of Brooklyn-born Biggie, real name Christopher Wallace. The east coast rapper was killed in an unsolved Los Angeles drive-by shooting in 1997.
Little-known rapper Jamal ‘Gravy’ Woolard plays Biggie in the biopic, while Bassett has been cast as Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace.
Poni, real name Marsha Bryant, says: ‘Gravy is excellent. He does a brilliant job playing the part of Biggie. I think people are going to love the film.’
Meanwhile, Poni is preparing for the release of her latest album and clothing line, M.Bryant. ‘It’s a hip-hop line, mixed with European style. I’ve been customising clothes since I was a child. I think it’s time to take it a bit further!’
