Occupy Wall Street Campaigners Ready for Third Week
02:04 - Friday 30 September 2011 - In Categories US News, US VideosEarlier this month, 5,000 US campaigners marched to Wall Street, New York’s financial district, to protest against social inequality and corporate greed.
Police pepper-sprayed five non-violent female campaigners and arrested more than 80 others, but hundreds of demonstrators refused to go home choosing to stage a sit-in protest in Zuccotti Park, a publically-owned plaza located near the Stock Exchange and close to where the Twin Towers stood.
While the mainstream media has largely ignored the protesters, they’ve received thousands of dollars in donations and support from actress Susan Sarandon and filmmaker Michael Moore.
23-year-old protestor Chris Biemer said: ‘It’s possible to stay here for months or longer, but at some point we’re going to become a fixture.’
