R Kelly is preparing to release his latest a new album and believes the project will enhance his already impressive music portfolio.
The self-proclaimed ‘Pied Piper of R&B’ has sold over 40 million albums and released anthems such as Honey Love and I Believe I Can Fly.
However, in recent times the 41 year-old has been plagued by controversy. arlier this year, after a six-year battle, Kelly was eventually cleared of 21 counts of soliciting a minor for child pornography.
Additionally, there have been fallouts, lawsuits and counterclaims with contemporaries such as Jay Z and Neyo.
During the run-up to his trial, Kelly seemed remarkably upbeat when Overgroundonline spoke with him.
He revealed plans to release an autobiography and spoke of a desire to show fans another side of his personality.
Kelly said: ‘I love women; I’m a mama’s boy. I saw my mother go through a lot of things with my step-father. I was able to get a front-row seat at seeing a woman I love dearly go through a lot.
‘Now I’m all grown up; understand the way life goes; and understand relationships between a woman and a man, I’m able to easily just put that into a song and make [women] feel it.’
He also plans to release a book. ‘I’ve already started writing a book about myself called My Side of the Story. A lot of things have transpired in my life.
‘My fans have supported me for the past 15 years without actually knowing who Robert is. This will give them a chance to get to know me for themselves; so they can make decisions for themselves.’
He continued: ‘This has to happen because enough is enough. People just don’t know Robert [but] everybody knows R Kelly. They know R Kelly as a writer, singer and producer with longevity, but sometimes your success can overwhelm who you really are.
‘Robert is a family man; a guy who likes to play with toys and have fun. Robert likes to go out and be amongst regular people. He likes decaf coffee with three creams and seven sugars. This is who I want the people to know; now they know R Kelly.’
