Everton Outside Favourites for FAWSL Championship

The second half of the FA Women’s Super League season kicks off this week, following a break for the Women’s World Cup 2011, writes Wayne Brown.

High-flyers Birmingham City aim to continue where they left off, with Championship chasers Arsenal looking to close a four-point gap and favourites Everton hot on their heels.

Liverpool ladies, hope to improve on their dismal start to the season, which finds them at the bottom of the table with no wins and only 3 points from 7 games.

Captain Vicky Jones (pictured) said last week: ‘We need to be stronger defensively, both as a back four and as a team.’

She added: ‘We need to make ourselves harder to beat, and this will mean cutting out individual mistakes that have cost us games.’

As the league’s stars return from World Cup duty, two key issues will be established pretty quickly: are the big-name players tired following their exertions in Germany, and how will they adjust to the hurly burly of the English game?

One thing’s for sure: you can prepare for a dramatic season finale.
