1996 Flashback: You're Making Me High / Let It Flow Toni Braxton
23:33 - Tuesday 19 July 2011 - In Categories UK Entertainment, Memory Bank
In July 1996, sultry soul singer Toni Braxton reached number seven in the charts with the lead single from her second album, You’re Making Me High.
The track was released as a double A-side with Let It Flow and earned Braxton her first US number one and third Grammy award.
Ironically, earlier this month, the organisers of the Grammy ceremony, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Inc (NARAS), filed a petition to ensure the singer – who was declared bankrupt in the late 1990s – doesn’t sell her awards.
According to NARAS, the awards ‘…are non-transferable and cannot be sold without the organization’s consent.’
Kinda makes you wonder who really owns the awards; NARAS or the artists?
