Dizzee Rascal for MP Says Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight
02:12 - Thursday 06 November 2008 - In Categories UK News, UK Videos
Anti-racism campaigners have slammed BBC presenter Jeremy Paxman for trying to mock cockney rapper Dizzee Rascal during a Newsnight interview on last week.
Charity Love Music Hate Racism criticised Paxman who interviewed Rascal, 23, and Baroness Valerie Amos following Barack Obama’s election victory.
The presenter asked Rascal questions such as ‘do you feel yourself to be British’ before suggesting that he should try and get a job as an MP.
Lee Billingham of Love Music Hate Racism said yesterday: ‘Why does a leading BBC news journalist deem it necessary to ask a black British person “do you feel yourself to be British”?
‘Would he have asked Barack Obama “do you feel yourself to be American”, of course not.’
