Video: Would You Forgive a Man Who Shot You in the Face?

On 4 November 1995, two teenage boys attempted to steal Jackie Millar’s car, shot her in the head and left her for dead.

Jackie – a mother of two, and grandmother of three – took years to recover and remains almost blind and permanently brain damaged.

‘I was the age of a two year old after the incident… I had to learn how to sit, how to stand, how to walk, how to talk,’ she says.

Admiringly, Jackie has forgiven her attackers and formed an unlikely friendship with her attackers thanks to the Restorative Justice Project, a pioneering program in the US state of Wisconsin.

The jailed offenders describe their meetings with Jackie as a lifeline, allowing them to do some ‘serious thinking, soul searching and to look at things from a different perspective’.
