Adele: 'Why Am I Paying So Much Tax?'

Hit-maker Adele was furious after learning she has to pay millions of pounds in tax bills.

The outspoken singer, from Tottenham, has topped the album charts for 16 weeks with her second offering, 21, ut she says her success is bitter-sweet:

‘When I got my tax bill in from [first album] 19, I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire.

‘I use the NHS, I can’t use public transport any more, doing what I do, I went to state school, I’m mortified to have to pay 50 per cent tax.

‘Trains are always late, most state schools are s**t and I’ve gotta give you, like, four million quid? Are you having a laugh?’

Despite her tax woes, the outspoken songstress has declined the chance to play three dates at London’s O2 Arena, which would have earned her £500,000.

The 23 year old says she fears performing in front of large crowds, and would prefer to spend this summer socialising with friends:

‘That’s all I’ll be doing; sitting in Brockwell Park with my friends, drinking cider.

‘I don’t come from money and I’m not fussed by money. I like nice things now I’ve got it but I’d still be alive and healthy and a good person if I didn’t have money now.’

She adds: ‘I will not do festivals. The thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me. I don’t think the music would work either. It’s all too slow.’
