Slut Walks: US Campaign Moves to London

Thousands of protestors waving signs and shouting ‘We love sluts’ marched in cities across the US last weekend as part of a growing campaign against rape and sexism.
The aptly named Slut Walks movement is motivated by comments made by a US police officer during a lecture to law students in Canada on the subject of personal safety.
‘Women,’ he said, ’should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised.’
The backlash has led to protests in Arizona, Wisconsin, Oregon and Illinois, with marches planned for Sweden, Argentina, Australia, Amsterdam and London on 4 June.
The protestors’ message is simple: sexual assault is an act of violence by the perpetrator, and never inspired or asked for by the victim – irrespective of what s/he is wearing.
