2001 Flashback: Survivor - Destiny's Child
05:44 - Wednesday 27 April 2011 - In Categories UK Entertainment, Memory Bank
On 28 April 2001, Destiny’s Child debuted at number one on the singles chart with Survivor.
The song is regarded as a 21st century reworking of Gloria Gaynor’s 1970s hit I Will Survive and won the trio a Grammy for Best R&b Performance by a Duo or Group in 2002.
It also sparked a lengthy court battle after ex-Destiny’s Child members Letoya Luckett and Latavia Roberson sued Kelly Rowland, Beyonce and her dad claiming the lyrics ‘You thought I wouldn’t sell without you/sold nine million’ broke an agreement both parties had made not to insult each other!
