British Consumers Snub High Street to Shop Online

A rising number of Brits are snubbing the high street in favour of shopping online, new research has found.
According to a report by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Google, the number of online searches for retail items rose by 29 per cent in the three months to the end of March compared with the same period last year.
Internet-enabled smartphones have been sited as a main reason Londoners have changed their retails habits.
According to Stephen Robertson, director-general of the BRC, 10% of searches were made using a mobile phone. ‘It’s extraordinary how shopping is evolving,’ he says.
