London-born filmmaker Julien Temple is to direct a film about soul singer Marvin Gaye.
The movie will focus on the recording of Gaye’s last album, Midnight Love, which featured the hit Sexual Healing and was released in 1982 – two years before the legendary crooner was shot dead by his father.
Temple’s previous projects include Sex Pistols biopic The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, music videos for Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson, and a critically acclaimed film about Essex-based R&B band Dr Feelgood, Oil City Confidential.
Word on the grapevine is that filming will begin later his year in Belgium where Gaye lived during the final years of his life, and Terence Howard will star in the lead role.
