Dangerous Levels of Tuberculosis in London
00:03 - Wednesday 19 January 2011 - In Categories UK News, World Videos
London is the tuberculosis (TB) capital of Western Europe, and Britain is the only nation in the region with rising levels of the disease, claim experts.
‘Poor housing, inadequate ventilation, and overcrowding – all common now and in Victorian Britain – are causes of the higher tuberculosis incidence rates in certain London boroughs,’ says Prof Alimuddin Zumla of University College London.
Here, Russia Today reporter Laura Emmet investigates how TB is spreading in the capital beyond high-risk groups such as immigrants and the unemployed.
