Schizophrenia Drugs Found in American Tap Water
15:50 - Thursday 18 September 2008 - In Category US News
Almost 50 million Americans are drinking water contaminated with drugs, researchers claimed this week.
The drugs include a tranquilliser found in Colorado Springs; and cholesterol medication and a nicotine by-product detected in Chicago.
Water in other cities tested positive for carbamazepine, a mood stabilizer used to treat epilepsy and schizophrenia.
While the study sheds new light on the extent of the dilemma, the majority of US cities are yet to be tested.
New York, which delivers water to nine million people, is still waiting to test its waters.
