Unemployment Will Hit Men Harder than Women

There will be more working women than men in Britain by 2014, a report has found.
The survey by the Policy Exchange institute found that employment rates among 16 and 17 year-olds are already higher for females and predicts that working women of all ages will outnumber their male counterparts within three years.
Moreover, the Equality Act, introduced two months ago, encourages employers to hire women and other under represented groups to help create workplace environments that are less discriminatory.
Abigail Morris, the British Chambers of Commerce employment adviser, criticised the new legislation and believes it will be largely ignored.
She said: ‘Allowing positive action in recruitment is not going to make much difference, except lead to more tribunal claims.’
In March, a BBC News report explained why employment is a bigger problem for British men than women. Watch it below.
