Twitter Founder Biz Stone Announces News Service

Biz Stone, founder of social networking site Twitter, has announced plans to launch a news service.

Speaking to students at the Silicon Valley Comes to Oxford event, Stone hinted that a partnership with a major media company had been on the cards for some time.

‘From the very beginning this has seemed almost as if it’s a news wire coming from everywhere around the world,’ Stone said.

He added: ‘I think a Twitter News Service would be something that would be very open and shared with many different news organizations around the world.’

Twitter has 175 million registered users and receives 95 million short messages, or ‘tweets’ – each no longer than 140 characters – every day.
