Judge Orders Wesley Snipes to Surrender
04:38 - Wednesday 24 November 2010 - In Category US News
Wesley Snipes has been ordered to surrender and start serving a three-year prison sentence for failing to file income tax returns after a US judge snubbed the actor’s plea for a new trial.
Snipes has been fighting for his freedom for the past two years after a Florida court found him guilty of hiding around 8 million pounds from the taxman.
Last week, US District Judge Terrell Hodges rejected the actor’s latest appeal, saying: ‘The defendant Snipes had a fair trial…The time has come for the judgment to be enforced.’
Eric Thompson, a supervisor in the US Marshals Service office said Snipes and his lawyer would receive notification of the surrender date in the next 28 days.
‘He’ll probably get it by certified mail,’ said Thompson.
