Man Jailed for Posting Pictures of Naked Ex-Girlfriend on Facebook

Bitter ex-boyfriend Joshua Simon Ashby has become the first person to be sent to prison for committing a Facebook crime.

Judge Andrew Becroft ruled that Ashby, from New Zealand, must serve four months in prison after he admitted posting a picture of his naked ex-girlfriend on Facebook, threatening to kill her and additional charges of wilful damage, theft and assault.

According to the judge, Ashby, 20, developed Facebook fury after breaking up with a woman he’d been dating for five months.

He sent threatening text messages and broke her mobile phone; stole two of the unnamed woman’s dresses, knocked her to the ground and posted a saucy picture of the woman posing naked onto her Facebook page.

Initially, the page was open to the victim’s Facebook friends, but in an ‘irresponsible drunken jealous rage’, Ashby changed the settings making the image available to over 500 million social networkers, and altered the password so the woman could not remove it.

Throughout the sentencing, Ashby hid his face behind a sheet of paper to avoid the paparazzi.

The irony of a man guilty of distributing sexy snaps of a woman without her consent trying to protect his own identity was not lost on the judge.

‘There was a certain symmetry to it’, he told the court after ordering Ashby to stop concealing his face and ruling that his photograph could be taken in court.
