Injury Forces Serena Williams to Call Time on 2010 Season
02:18 - Sunday 07 November 2010 - In Category Sport
Serena Williams will not play again this season after suffering a recurrence of a foot injury, writes Julien Mitchell.
The Wimbledon champion has not been seen on court since accidentally cutting her foot on a glass in a restaurant.
She was expected to return for the Generali Ladies Linz event in Austria, but had to withdraw after breaking down in training.
Williams said: ‘Pushed by my desire to return to competition, I trained too hard too soon and re-tore the tendon in my foot. As a result I will need another procedure to repair it.’
Her announcement comes two weeks after her sister Venus called time on her season after a knee injury.
