Hurricane Tomas killed six people in Haiti and could encourage a cholera epidemic endangering the lives of one million people living in tent camps since the January earthquake.
Relief experts had feared the death toll would be higher.
In related news, England and Tottenham Hotspurs striker Jermain Defoe made a public appeal to help find his uncle who has not been seen since Hurricane Tomas swept through St Lucia last weekend.
The country has been devastated by the storm, which 14 people and displaced hundreds more. Defoe said: ‘No one has seen my uncle. We are out of our minds with worry.’
