MOBO 2010's Grime Finale was Historic Moment for UK Hip Hop

British rappers Tinchy Stryder, Giggs, Professor Green, Tinie Tempah and Devlin closed this year’s MOBO Awards with a performance of Game Over, a new collaboration likely to be one of the biggest singles of 2010.

Rewind five years and homegrown talent simply did not feature in MOBOs grand finale, regardless of the act’s record sales or status with genuine music fans.
That privilege was reserved for US acts only.
To help redress the balance, in October 2005, we produced the Best of British Awards with Channel U – one of the first events to honour new generation hip hop and dance acts such Roll Deep (above), Jay Sean, and Estelle.
Over the past decade, I’ve dedicated much of my career to raising the profile of the UK’s urban entertainment industry, in hope that one day they receive the recognition they’ve always deserved.
I can now rest assured, my job is done. Here’s to the next five.
