Record-breaking sprinter LaShawn Merritt will not be defending his Olympic 400 meters title in London after failing three drugs test, writes Julien Mitchell.
The American’s 21-month ban, backdated from October 2009, is due to expire in July 2011.
However, under the International Olympic Committee regulations, Merritt must sit out the next major Olympic event as his ban was longer than six months.
The 24-year-old admitted using an over-the-counter male enhancement product containing banned substances DHEA ehydroepiandrosterone) and pregnenolne.
