A three year-old girl from Liverpool grew a marijuana plant in her father’s garden – with seeds bought from a local supermarket.
When Lois Williams asked her father Danny, 31, if she could grow her own vegetables, he agreed and bought a 100g packet of organic health food seed mix from his local Asda.
Father and daughter planted the seeds hoping to cultivate potatoes, tomatoes and beans.
But two months later, Mr Williams noticed a strong smell coming from his vegetable patch and was shocked to discover the seeds had grown into a fully-grown weed plant.
After examining the ingredients, Mr Williams discovered the packet of seeds contained hemp, a derivative of cannabis, which is legal to grow in the UK with a government license.
Last week Asda confirmed its seed mix contains 15 per cent of Sativa cannabis, but claimed their product was different to cannabis that is used recreationally.
A spokesman told Liverpool Echo: ‘Asda takes measures to ensure traceability of its products and the suppliers of these seeds are authorised growers under licence.’
