Community Service Replaced with Tough Manual Labour

Convicted criminals will supply free labour to build houses and major industrial projects across the UK, following a radical overhaul of community service and unpaid work programmes.

Under new plans, approved by the Ministry of Justice, community service punishments such as road-sweeping and window cleaning are being replaced with tougher manual labour, and criminals

Ministers say the scheme, due to start next year, will save the government millions and help kick-start the economy.

A government source said: ‘Putting it simply it is payback time.

‘This policy will send out a very tough message that there is no easy ride and that it is everybody’s responsibility to rebuild the economy and the country.’
