Carlos the Jackal Returns, Again05:15 - Thursday 07 October 2010 - In Categories World Entertainment, World Videos
Neither Bruce Willis nor Englishman Edward Fox were able to win over movie critics with their portrayals of international terrorist, Carlos the Jackal.
However, a new film starring Edgar Ramirez, who shares his birthplace, Venezuela, and name with the fugitive, was hailed at this year’s Cannes Film Festival as ‘an epic project’.
For 20 years until the time of his capture in 1994, Carlos, real name Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, was responsible for a series of spectacular terror attacks, including a raid on the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) offices in Austria.
In 1975, Carlos stormed a meeting of OPEC leaders, kidnapped 42 hostages and flew them to Algeria. They were released days later after Carlos had negotiated a 40 million dollar deal and political asylum.
