Premier Foods – makers of Hovis bread, Braston pickle and Bisto gravy – have been fined almost 17,000 pounds after a man found a dead mouse in a loaf of bread.
Stephen Forse, from Oxfordshire, says he noticed ‘…a dark-coloured object embedded in the corner of three or four slices,’ while making sandwiches for his children.
‘Initially I thought it was where the dough had not mixed properly prior to baking. As I looked closer I saw that the object had fur on it,’ he said.
Premier Foods apologised for failing to maintain acceptable standards at its British Bakeries site in London, but claimed: ‘…there was no evidence of mice within the bakery and no history of any similar issues.’
If that’s true, how did a dirty rodent end up in poor Stephen’s loaf?
