I Turned Down Simon Cowell Because I Beleive in Myself Says Zarif

It was a delight to come across independent British singer-songwriter Zarif earlier this month.

The 24-year-old singer, from Harrow, was formerly signed to Sony and hit the headlines after turning down a personal invitation from Simon Cowell to appear on X Factor.

Zarif, who is of Scottish, Iranian and Jewish descent, says: ‘It’s very hard being part of big machine.

‘I learned to trust my own instincts, but a big company encourages you not to do that. They have other people there to think for you.

‘But if you have a vision of your own you have to stick to it because other people will have no idea what that is.’
