Ghana’s biggest reggae artist, Samini, will debut his latest album to Britain’s music and media industry at a private function to be held this week.
Journalists, major label executives and celebrities will come together at one of London’s premier live music venues for the launch of Samini’s latest album, Dagaati, on Thursday.
Samini (formerly known as Batman) was honoured with a MOBO Award for Best African Act in 2006, when he last visited the UK.
The singer, who arrived in the Capital on Friday, told Overground: ‘Since 2006 I have not really done any concerts out here, and my hype has gone static.
‘This is more like a comeback trip to entertain my precious fans and to prove my critics wrong on certain assumptions about me.’
He adds: ‘This will be my first album launch outside the motherland, so I know I need to deliver and am working seriously towards that.’
Samini’s third studio album, Dagaati, features collaborations with Jamaican reggae songstress Etana, UK rapper Sway and Grammy-nominated band Steel Pulse.
‘Out of my three albums, Dagaati comes with a lot more international collaborations than ever in the history of my recordings,’ says Samini.
‘The style has grown beyond African dancehall – as I used to brand it. It’s a mature blend and experiment of all brands of music with Afro basics.’
