Ashton Kutcher: The Truth about Being a Celebrity
20:10 - Friday 23 August 2013 - In Categories US Entertainment, US VideosThese days, when you ask young people what they want to be ‘when they grow up’ more often than not the occupation ‘celebrity’ pops up, writes Rena Dipti Annobil.
And when I think about the fact that ‘celebrities’ these days tend to be former Big Brother contestants, WAGS, or even well-known music artists Tweeting photos of themselves flashing their boobs on a drunken night out, my heart sinks a bit.
So, it was both surprising and refreshing to hear some insightful advice from Ashton Kutcher at the Teen Choice Awards recently.
After receiving the ceremony’s Ultimate Choice Award, Ashton began his acceptance speech by revealing his real name is actually Chris. He then went on to reveal the most important things he learned before he became Ashton: ‘I believe that opportunity looks a lot like hard work,’ was the beginning of his first point.
He also told thousands of screaming teenagers that ‘the sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart, and being thoughtful and generous’, and it has nothing to do with the ‘crap’ they are sold by society.
Needless to say, the video of his speech (above) has gone viral and currently has over three million views on YouTube.
I love the fact that he used this platform to give genuine advice, and demonstrated actual humility; proving not just a pretty face. I just wish more ‘celebrities’ would do the same.
