New Art Exhibition Tackles Size Zero Debate

Today will see the launch of a new art exhibition enthused by the modelling industry's ongoing anorexia and size zero debate.

The exhibition, called Supermodels, distorts the public view of well-known models and celebrities using 18 paintings with titles such as Lilly, Amy, Venus, Alek and Heather.

The latest work by self-taught artist Adelaide Damoah was inspired after the death of Brazilian supermodel Anna Carolina Reston, who died from anorexia-related complications in 2006.

Adelaide says she uses the large canvases to challenge all forms of self-destruction: ‘I decided not to paint faces as I want the viewer to pay attention to the bodies of these women, and let that do the talking.

‘None of them have eyes. I gave eyes to the only dead model in the collection – Ana.’

Supermodels is exhibited at the Nolias Gallery in London until 7 October. For further information, click here To find out more about Adelaide, click here
