Mental health patients will be paid up to £720 a year if they agree to be injected with medication, doctors announced recently.

Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia sufferers will be bribed with £15 for every jab of anti-psychotic drugs, as part of a new study conducted by a team at Queen Mary, University of London.

Lead researcher Professor Stefan Priebe said: 'We decided on the £15 sum because it is a relatively small amount of money. It is an incentive. You do not want people to become dependent on the money.'

The announcement came in the same week EastEnders viewers watched Stacey Slater (pictured) battle with bipolar, formerly known as manic depression.

Award-winning actress Lacey Turner, 20, who plays Stacey, says: 'I think its great EastEnders is continuing to raise awareness of this difficult issue.

'My best moment this year has been the bipolar storyline. I'm really honoured that they trusted me with such a big event, but it petrified me at the same time. It's such a good opportunity.'
